Trend Focus: Baby Girl Names in 2025

It’s 2025 and we’re starting to welcome the first babies born into Generation Beta! As more and more Millennial and Gen Z couples start to grow their families, they’ve instigated some exciting new naming trends for baby girls – and we look at some of them in our latest journal post.

This generation’s baby girls’ names are expected to be a combination of two seemingly disparate trends: while some baby girls will see the resurgence of traditional names, others are kicking those traditional names to the curb in preference for stylish new names full of musicality.

Baby naming website Nameberry allows users to vote on their favourite names to create a real-time list of popular baby names for girls, which gives an indication of what names might be appearing on birth certificates this year.

Nameberry’s Predicted Top 10 Baby Girl Names (as of February 2025):

  1. Maeve
  2. Eloise
  3. Elodie
  4. Daphne
  5. Aurelia
  6. Hazel
  7. Eleanor
  8. Isla
  9. Amelia
  10. Charlotte

Despite Olivia being in the top three baby girl names every year since 2006 (According to the UK’s Office of National Statistics (ONS)), Nameberry is predicting a shift in the name’s enduring popularity – though 2023’s number 2 and 3 names (Amelia and Isla) are both still expected to trend in 2025.

Beyond the Top Ten

Baby girl name trends have a far wider spread than that of boys, with there being a larger range of names being chosen for girls than boys. Outside of the top ten, predictions expect an increase in new and unique names for baby girls like Bexley and Hero, as well as the growth in adoption of some traditionally-male names like Noah and Max.

What’s Impacting the Trends?

Baby naming trends are hugely impacted by popular culture and celebrities across music, film and television as well as royalty. In 2025, predictions indicate a rise in nature-inspired girls’ names like Rain, Cloud and Iris, while biblical names continue to drop off the radar since their height in the 80s and 90s.

Trend Focus: Popular Baby Girl Names 2025 inspired by Pop Culture and Music

Pop Culture Inspired Baby Girl Names

Pop culture has always had an impact on baby naming trends, with huge shows and movies bringing new names to the fore. Game of Thrones inspired names such as Khaleesi, Daenerys, Arya and Sansa burst into popularity between 2015-2020, and 2021-2022 seeing more baby girls named Wanda and Scarlett after the leading ladies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The boom of the name Rachel peaked in 1996 at the height of the Friends era, but has since dropped.

For 2025, Maeve continues to grow in popularity which the ONS says began in 2019, aligning with the release of the popular Netflix show Sex Education (a time in which we also saw more baby boys being named Otis). Also expected to grow are Margot (Robbie) thanks to the smash hit Barbie movie and Ariana (Grande) from Wicked.

Music-Inspired Baby Names

2022 saw the rise of babies named Rita and Dua after the pop singers, while in 2025 the popularity of Billie (Eilish) and Charlotte (Charlie XCX) are expected to continue their upward trajectory alongside the new additions of Ariana (Grande), Sabrina (Carpenter), and both Chapel and Roan from the iconic singer.

Baby Names Losing Popularity

Biblical names like Jessica, Elizabeth and Mary are falling in popularity, and those heights of the Game of Thrones are unsurprisingly no longer the trends in 2025. Popular girl names from the early noughties like Grace, Ruby, Emily and Sophie have also fallen in popularity - some posit this could be due to the fact that the Gen Z couples who are having the babies are trying to avoid naming their children after childhood friends, opting for something more original.
