We’re Alf & Bet - a creative husband and wife team (better known as Jon and Karen) and we’re really excited to share our small business journey with you through our journal. Let’s dive right in with a little bit of background about our goals and passions, then give you an overview of what you can expect from our journal.
How did we start?
In 2023, Alf & Bet (think Alphabet) was born from Jon’s passion for typography, colour and a desire to create unique gifts for people to buy for their families, friends, or even themselves!
Having spent many years working as a designer and creative director in the design industry (where Jon still works today) this was a great opportunity to develop a small-scale business dedicated to creating limited edition personalised prints and greetings cards.
And given Jon’s long-held love of lettering and colour, it seemed obvious that these things should be a core focus of the new designs, and become an inspiration for the business itself.
So, in short, that’s how Alf & Bet first started, and you can learn more about us in our bio, and Instagram feed, and we will share more about the design processes for our custom prints and cards in upcoming journal entries.
What makes us different?
All of our designs (including our personalised products) feature our signature typographic design style with a wide range of colour combinations, thoughtfully curated with different people’s tastes and preferences in mind.
Our custom prints also offer you the chance to add your own specific messages to create a truly one-of-a-kind product that can’t be found anywhere else.
Plus every print and card we sell online is individually made-to-order by us, and we are personally involved from start-to-finish. So you can really feel the love when you choose to buy an Alf & Bet print or card!
And we take our responsibility to the environment seriously - you can read more about our efforts in our sustainability statement, but in short you can expect high quality, sustainably-sourced materials, small craft production with minimal waste, and partnerships with eco projects like Ecologi to further our climate commitment.
What can you expect from our journal?
This journal will be a mix of different topics and themes: we’ll talk about our new products, and give you insights into our design inspirations, as well as a behind-the-scenes peeks into our production processes. We’ll also share our opinions on decor trends, provide advice on how to best display our prints, and offer options on unique gift ideas for upcoming holidays and special occasions.
